Ferrum College Lacrosse Alumni Rob Kaminski, was recently accepted to Leeds Beckett University in the United Kingdom, where he will be able to extend his playing career.

"I am proud to say I have been accepted into Leeds Beckett University in the UK and will be pursuing a Master’s Degree in psychology," Kaminski said "as well as continuing my lacrosse career for the university and other clubs."

A 2014 Graduate of Satellite High School in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Kaminski originally committed to play lacrosse at Hiram College in Ohio. His course was derailed after getting into some trouble and he lost his opportunity to attend Hiram.  The only option was to attend Harford Community College in Churchville, Maryland. After a year and half at Harford, Rob failed out and was forced to look once again elsewhere. Third times a charm, Ferrum College took a chance on Kaminski and he made the most of it. A member of the 2019 Class, Kaminski received his Undergraduate Degree in Social Work. During his time at Ferrum, Rob developed into hardworking student-athlete. In the classroom he was gradually able improve his grades, applying some of Coach Baggetta’s philosophies. Starting off slow, Kaminski finished his first year with a 2.2 grade point average.  Kaminski remembered that Coach Baggetta had always said, “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.” Rob ended his college career with a cumulative GPA of 2.795.

Kaminski, a long stick midfielder for the Black and Gold saw time in 38 games throughout his four-year career. He didn’t start a single game during his freshman or sophomore seasons; however started in nine games during his junior season and 14 during his senior campaign. Kaminski registered 20 ground balls and notched four caused turnovers. His effort, commitment, and expectations that he continues to show have been a major part in strengthening the identity of the Panther defense, or “Black Shirts” and the team’s overall culture of brotherhood.

“Once I started to buy into Coach’s Philosophy on and off the field, I began to see a world of success.” Kaminski said “I invested myself and was able to reach my fullest potential in the classroom, as well as on the field. Coach Baggetta not only made me a better player but a better man. I hope for the incoming recruits understand how special the brotherhood is that our coaching staff preaches, and what it takes to become a part of the Ferrum lacrosse family.”

Leeds Beckett University is an affiliate of Lacrosse the Pond, a program that works with many world-renowned institutions in the United Kingdom. Lacrosse the Pond affords the opportunity for United State and Canadian graduates to work on their Graduate Degrees in multiple fields of study. While focusing on their Graduate Degrees the players will get the opportunity to tour the UK.  They will continue to play lacrosse, working camps and clinics, to help continue the growth of the game.

“I’m filled with so much joy that Rob has worked for this opportunity to continue his education and playing career. Rob has overcome and grown so much in his time at Ferrum, he embodies what I expect from all my players, to become better men" Baggetta said, "As a member of the Ferrum lacrosse family we would like to help in any way we can to give him the opportunity to further his education.”

A Go Fund Me account has been set up by Rob to help offset the starting fees and expenses such as his international student visa, confirmation cost and initial travel expenses.  Coach Baggetta and Ferrum Lacrosse ask that anyone who may be able to contribute to support in any way they can.
