Barbieri Named Women's Lacrosse Coach

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wilson College Director of Athletics Lori Frey has announced the hiring of Emily Barbieri as the head women's lacrosse coach. Barbieri comes to Wilson after serving as the assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Hood College since 2015. She is also the founder of the Atlantic Coast Lacrosse Academy and is the director of the Maryland Lacrosse showcase.

"After an extensive national search of candidates, we  are excited to welcome Emily Barbieri as our head coach of women's lacrosse." said Frey. "She was a standout player and leader at the NCAA Division I level and is committed to providing an outstanding student-athlete experience. She is deeply connected in the lacrosse community and I am confident she will be successful in recruiting and establishing the foundation for a first year program."

Barbieri was a standout performer at Monmouth University where she served as a team captain and helped the Hawks to two Northeast Conference championships.

"I'm really excited to be the head coach at Wilson College," said Barbieri. "The opportunity to build a program from the ground up is rare and I'm looking forward to creating something special here at Wilson. I'd like to thank Lori Frey and the search committee for the opportunity to join the Wilson College community."

Lacrosse is in the family genes for Barbieri as she credits her mom, Jane Barbieri, a two-time captain of the U.S. Women's National Team and a member of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame, for instilling the love and passion for the game in her.

In her role as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Hood College, Barbieri helped the Blazers land an all-conference performer that set school records for goals, assists, points, and draw controls.

In addition to her duties as the head women's lacrosse Coach, Barbieri will also serve as the coordinator of campus recreation where she will be tasked with developing programming for the entire Wilson community.

Barbieri will begin recruiting immediately for the women's lacrosse team which will begin competition in the spring of the 2020-21 year.

"As coaches, we impact our student-athletes' success academically and in their personal lives. I enjoy the process of helping them gain knowledge, confidence, and skills to pursue their dreams," said Barbieri. "I am deeply passionate about using lacrosse as a vehicle to shape our young women's lives."
